How To Pack Your Rucksack
Loading the items in your backpack can dramatically influence your speed, endurance & enjoyment of an outing.
For Easy Treks: Carry the load high and fairly close to the back, as this will allow your hips to take the majority of the weight. To implement this strategy, load your lightest, fluffiest articles (sleeping bag, extra clothing) in the bottom area. Place the densest items (food, climbing gear, camera, binoculars) up top, near the shoulder blades.
For More Difficult Terrain:
PACK THIS WAY FOR DODITAL Revise your packing strategy. Pack the heavy items slightly lower (in the middle portion of the bag) and ensure they are as close to the back as possible. This will force more of the load onto your back and shoulders but will lower your center of gravity and allow you to keep your balance easily.
Points to follow when packing your backpack:
1. Loosen all compression straps.
2. Fill lower part with sleeping bag and clothes. ie. the bulkiest & the lightest.
3. Fill main compartment with rest of gear, keeping the heaviest items high and close to your back.
4. Put frequently used items in side or top pockets.
5. Tighten all compression straps to compress the load and keep it from shifting while you hike.
Easy access to frequently used items.
Along with arranging items in your pack for optimum weight distribution, organize them for quick access. Articles like towels, caps, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle’s which are sometimes needed at a moment's notice, are ideally carried in side or top pockets.
Keeping your contents dry.
Determine a strategy to keep your pack contents dry in rainy weather, because even packs constructed from waterproof materials are not necessarily waterproof. Water can leak through seams, zippers, pockets, the top opening, and places where the coating has worn off. Individual plastic bags or good waterproof stuff sacks can help protect pack contents. Most pack manufacturers offer waterproof pack covers as accessories. You may also choose to simply use a large plastic trash bag as a waterproof liner inside your pack. Pack all electronic gadgets, camera’s or binoculars in a cotton towel before adding it to a waterproof cover. The cotton layer prevents vapours from forming on these devices due to the humidity which gets packed at the lower altitudes.

LADAKH BIKING
Popularly known as "Land of the Lamas", Ladakh is a land of snow carved peaks, translucent Lakes, barren terrain and mystic culture. The district of Ladakh lies at the border with Tibet at the most eastern corner of the State of Kashmir. Bounded by two of the world's mightiest mountain ranges, the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram, Ladakh is a land like no other. Ladakh is often referred to as the "Little Tibet", or the "Last Shangri-La". Ladakh is the trans-Himalayan region, which separates the western Himalayan peaks from the Tibetan plateau. In geological terms, is a young land, formed a few million years ago by the buckling and folding of the earth's crust as the Indian sub-continent pushed with irresistible force against the immovable mass of Asia. Ladakh is a mysterious land shrouded in myth and legend. Much of its ancient history is known only through the mythology of its people.

PACKAGES IN WESTERN GHATS - 2 DaysBhimgad Trek - Best in Winter: Probably the most dense forest in this region of the Western Ghats, this has a fabulous wild life. The trek from village Gawali gradually descends about 8 kms to a thin stream and then with ups & downs, one reaches this mysterious fort.
Mysterious because, one always keeps wondering about the hows and the whys and many more facts of the fort while there’s still a lot to be discovered here. Night halt is made in a cave taking care of all safety measures.
A night in the cave can be really thrilling as you hear various sounds of wild animals – sometimes very close to the cave. There is an option of returning the same way or making it via another village Krishnapur and ending the trek in Goa.
Kendra Trek: Its double the fun as in one-day trek. The add-ons are a night halt in dome tents, fishing in Tilari river and the real trough ascent during the return trek.
Sada Trek: Way out, right on the borders of Karnataka, Maharashtra & Goa, high on the peak & in the forests is nestled this beautiful village Sada. A trek on a rough seasonal road through occasional dense forests takes you there. The village had unmatched natural beauty apart from many other aspects. There is a fort supposed to be built by the Kadambas centuries ago, a water fall & underground caves formed due to volcanic eruption. Typically shaped wells house the now tiny village Sada. Night Halt is done in dome tents.
Vajra Waterfall Base Trek - Strictly Post Monsoons: Another taxing trek in the jungles of Jamboti and Krishnapur, the trek descends down sharply, for 2 to 3 hours, from Gawali to the base of the Vajrapawa waterfall through thick trees and shrubs. Night halt in dome tents on a flat rocky bed just near the waterfall enables you to enjoy the sound of gushing water at night too. Needless to add, the ascent during the return trek is tough.
Ladki Waterfall Base Trek: A tough and a daring trek to the base of the 275 feet deep Ladki waterfall. A sharp descent takes you deeper in the valley. Then onwards its up & down on the contours of many hills until you reach in the virgin canyon just below the waterfall. Its awesome to be in this gorge and the feel is simply great. Night halt is made in dome tents in a flat rocky bed just near the waterfall.
Sindhudurg Shore Trek: At the southern coast of Maharashtra, we begin the trek from Shiroda. Soon crossing a river, at low tide, which merges in the sea, we stick to the shore which now becomes rocky. Many a times you are walking on sharp rock high above the surface of the sea with the scorching sun draining off your energy. The trek is tough. Night halt on a beach near the village Ubhadanda. The next day beach trek to Vengurla and get a lift to Shiroda.
iii. Three Days: Camps are set up at Sada, Kankumbi, Kalsa, Habbanhatti, Sowtera Waterfall & many such scenic places in the Sahyadris. Mountaineering activities like Rock Climbing, Rappelling, River Crossing are also organised along with treks.
iv. Tailor-made treks – We concentrate on tailor-made packages as per the requirements of the clients. Packages are designed considering the location, adventure activities, camping arrangements, food, transport and most important, the group size. If the clients request, we also include lessons on Yoga, Pranayama & Meditation to ease & manage stress.
v. Longer Camps – During the summer vacations we also arrange longer camps for 5 to 7 days and are advertised as MISSION CHAMPION & such others. Although these camps are primarily organised for children, people of all ages & both genders are welcome to participate in it. This camp involves a number of adventure activities, obstacle training, yoga, unarmed combat, games and other recreational activities. PACKAGES IN WESTERN GHATS - 1 Day
Vajra Waterfall Trek (Head) - Strictly Post Monsoons Only: In the dense jungles of Jamboti region and on the river Mahadaye, also known as Mandovi in Goa, this beautiful waterfall drops from a height of about 200 feet. The trek, to & fro, is of about 7 kms, most of it through the rocky riverbed involving a lot of boulder hopping. Bears, Bison, Wild Boars and reptiles dominated this patch of the jungle. The best part of this trek is, winters or summers, Mahadaye always has flowing water.Kalsa to Sural Trek - All Seasons, Monsoons are the BEST: In the dense jungles of Kankumbi region, this trek runs on the rocky bed of Kalsa stream. Beginning at a point known as Kalsa in Karnataka, after a couple steep ascends & descends the trek crosses the Kalsa stream for the second time which marks the border between Karnataka and Goa.
Soon there is the Kalsa waterfall (actually known as Barajanancha Vazar). Further, trekking through rocky river, one reaches the head of the Sural Waterfall (actually known as Ladki Cha Vazar) which is about 275 feet deep. The virgin valley in the canyon below is amazing and you involuntarily echo a wooooooww……!
A steep ascending from here takes you the village Sural in Goa. The fun is you start the trek in Karnataka & finish it in Goa. The docile stream swells to a monstrous river during monsoons and then, only Infinity Adventures can take you on this daring & dangerous trek. A trek here in the monsoons will surely be a remarkable event of your life.
Kendra Trek - Strictly Post Monsoons Only: In the dense jungles of Kankumbi region after a couple kms this trek is a steep descend in a deep valley for almost two hours. At the base was village Kendra (now evacuated for Tilari dam) and post monsoon, scenic beauty and wild life are at its bloom here while the Tilari river flows gently.
Sada Trek - All Seasons, Mild Monssons & Winter are Best Time: Right on the border of Karnataka, Maharashtra & Goa, high on the peak & in the forests is nestled this beautiful village Sada. A trek on a rough seasonal road through occasional dense forests takes you there. The village has unmatched natural beauty. Then there is a fort supposed to be built by the Kadambas centuries ago, a water fall and underground caves formed due to volcanic eruptions. Typically shaped wells house the now tiny village Sada. It’s not possible to explore the whole of Sada in just one day and we are sure, you will come back here again and again.
Parwad Stream Trek - Monsoons Only: In the dense jungles of Parwad region, this trek through the stream is only about 3 kms but generally requires 5 hours to complete. All through the trek you are walking through the stream which is mostly knee deep & at times rises to the chest. This very safe but exciting trek takes you to two smaller waterfalls below which you can really shower. Only during monsoons.
ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES
1. Trekking – The word TREK is said to have originated from the Greek language. Trek was then referred to a cart journey. Later, any arduous journey was considered to be as a trek. But as of now, Trekking is commonly referred to a distance laborious journey on foot.
a. Western Ghats – Packed with abundant natural beauty, the Western Ghats or the Sahyadris stretch about 1600 kms from north to south. Dense forests, awesome hills, breathtaking valleys, wonderful rivers, amazing forts, unexplored caves, a variety of natural herbs, gigantic waterfalls and much more ... all of which provide infinite opportunities to an adventurer seeking enlightenment. We at Infinity Adventures concentrate in the forests of Khanapur taluka (Belgaum District) in the Western Ghats to provide out clients with endless opportunities to discover themselves & bring out their true inner beings.
b. Himalayas - Infinity Adventures regularly conducts camp & high altitude trekking expeditions during the summer in the Himalayas to offer even more wider scope for all our adventure activities. The value addition is the form of skiing, snow trekking and white water rafting in the Beas, Indus & Ganges. Most of our camps are concentrated in Ladakh, Manali, the Garhwal & the Kumaon region of the Himalayas. Of course, we do organise camps & treks in other parts of the Himalayas too.
2. Rock Climbing – A daring sport of ascending a vertical or overhanging rock face with the help of a rope & other specialised equipment. Since natural rock faces for climbing may not be available everywhere, artificial climbing walls are in use. Artificial Wall Climbing is now being introduced in the Olympic Games.
3. Rappelling – Also known as Abseiling, this is a daring technique of descending down a high cliff with the help of a rope & a couple of other equipment. The thrill of standing out of the high cliff is experienced to be believed. Rappelling could be on high plain wall as well as on over-hanging walls.
Australian Rappelling (Rap Jump) – Unlike the traditional Rappelling, Australian Rappelling is done facing the ground while the body remains perpendicular to the rappelling wall. It is best to do it on an 850 wall.
4. River Crossing – River crossing can be done in two ways – through water & overhead. If the river is shallow & feeble it can be crossed through water with the help of just a rope as a safety measure. But if the river is deep or the current very strong, it is best to opt for over-head crossing method. Over-head crossing is more technical involving skills in fixing the rope & use of other equipments.
5. Water Sports
a. Coracle boating – These round shaped boats are best used in lakes & back waters. Difficult to row and steer it in the right direction, it can be a fun with proper safety jackets & a basic knowledge of rowing.
b. Floating Beds - A relatively newer concept of specially designed beds that actually float even when you are still sitting or sleeping on it. Use your arms as ores and experience the sheer joy of very basic boating.
c. White Water Rafting – The sheer thrill of riding the waves (specially the rapids of the Himalayan rivers) in an inflated rubber raft is an experience one should not miss. We do Rafting in the Sahyadris at Dandeli & at Coorg, while that in the Himalayas is in Beas (Himachal Pradesh), Indus (Ladakh) and the Bhagirathi (Utaranchal).6. Skiing – Joyous fun of gliding on soft snow with long shoes called Skis. It’s a recreation, sport, and mode of transportation that involves moving over snow by the use of a pair of long, flat runners, called skis, attached to shoes or boots. Yes you can do it with us at Manali in Himachal MONSOON MASTI
After hard efforts & dedicated jungle survey of our team (29th May to 13th June – about two weeks) we are now proud to introduce all new & virgin waterfalls in the dense jungles of Jamboti.
Treks to these waterfalls can be tailor-designed to the requirements of our clients from moderate to intense levels (ranging from just 3 kms to 10 kms) so that even the weakest is not left back from enjoying the beauty of the jungles & experiencing that tang of adventure. There also are options of safe night stays clubbed up with possible mountaineering activities, music and camp fire.
Needless to mention & as thousands of you know, as always, safety & satisfaction of our clients has been our foremost motto.
Back here at Infinity Adventures, we strive hard to give our clients a Better Understanding of the ‘Self’ & of the ‘Nature’.
1. Moving through dense untrodden jungles during the survey. - - - 2. Our survey team
Please note: Photographs of newer waterfalls uploaded on this Blog are without water, as during the time of survey it wasn’t rainy. Also ‘vazar’, in this particular belt of the Western Ghats is referred to a ‘waterfall’.
1. Thorlayacha Vazar: Is a 30+ feet waterfall below which around 30 people can stand comfortably. There are no risky potholes below the waterfall. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 70 kms.
2. Kalyamaticha Vazar: Is about 50 feet waterfall below which about 45 to 50 people can stand. There are no risky potholes below the waterfall. This waterfall gets its name from the stream which it fall from – Kalyamaticha meaning black soil. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 70 kms.
3. Paikelicha Vazar: Is a 30+ feet waterfall below which around 30 people can stand comfortably. There are no risky potholes below the waterfall. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 70 kms.
4. Panyacha Vazar: Is a 20+ feet waterfall below which around 20 people can stand comfortably. There are no risky potholes below the waterfall. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 70 kms.
5. Bandryacha Vazar: Is a 30+ feet waterfall below which around 25 to 30 people can stand comfortably. There are no risky potholes below the waterfall. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 70 kms.
6. Bhatwadyacha Vazar: Is a 50+ feet waterfall below which around 30 people can stand comfortably. There are no risky potholes below the waterfall. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 80 kms.
7. Siddeshwar Temple: A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva at the highest point in this region (3300 feet) give magnificent views of the jungles & the valley around. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 80 kms.
8. Mother Mary Rock: Most surprisingly a cute little idol of Mother Mary is fixed in a big rock in the dense jungles. No records (as of now) of who did it, when & why. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 80 kms.
9. Chikla to Parwad: In extremely heavy rains this trek is a great option with no risk & no pain. The trek is along the high ridge of the Karnataka Goa border & we pass through points like Nanyachi Chowki, Sowtera Waterfall & Parwad Waterfall. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 120 kms.
10: Parwad Stream: During heavy rains it requires about 3 hours to trek a patch of less than 2 kms. Enroute is the small but great small waterfall called Pendya which we also call as Washing Machine or Jacuzzi. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 120 kms.
11. Kasara Stream: This trek is all though the stream, along the stream & through the forests. We visit a couple small waterfalls which can be of great fun. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 120 kms.
12: Parwad to Kalsa Waterfall: While sometime it is impossible to cross the Kalsa Stream at the Delta Point, we access the Kalsa Waterfall from Parwad region. The trek is through dense forests. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 150 kms.
13: Kalsa to Sural: One of the best treks in this region of Kankumbi forests is avoided in heavy rains. We go across the Kalsa waterfall & Sural waterfall (350 ft deep). Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 150 kms.
14: Sada Waterfall: A great trek for adventure enthusiasts. We go to the base of this 300 odd feet waterfall after a tough & slippery trek. Motorable distance from Belgaum is about 150 kms.
Do’s:
- Always follow the instructions given by your group leader & guides.
- On slippery slopes take smaller steps while bending the knees & ducking the body.
- On slippery slopes keep distance between you & the person in front of you.
- Mind the branch or plant that you are holding. There could be a insect there.
- Carry all waste back out of the forests.
- While crossing rivers or streams brace your feet properly at the bed.
- Wear pre-used sports shoes to avoid blisters.
Dont’s:
- Don’t put much weight on plants & branches.
- Never jump over rocks or rush to over take. Wet rocks are very slippery.
- Don’t light fire or cigarettes.
- Don’t litter the forests with plastic & such other wrappers.
- Whistling & shouting may distract wild animals & make them attack.
- Don’t try to make your own path as there could be insects or reptiles there.
- Don’t sway away from the group.
- Do not wear clothes with vibrant colors.
Clothing: Khaki or olive-green or brown clothing would be suitable. White or bright colors are too conspicuous and tend to scare animals. Round neck & full sleeved T-shirts are advisable. Long trousers are most essential. Consult the organisers for better options.
Things to Carry: Insect repellent cream (eg. Odomos), Extra set of clothes to be water proofed, water bottle, specific medicines if any. Mobiles, camera & other valuables at are your own risk. Waterproof them properly.
Disclaimer: Infinity Adventures reserves the right to change the route of the trek or even the destination and holds complete power to cancel the trek at any moment, even after reaching the base point of the trek, subject to climatic or road conditions, fitness of the clients or due to official reasons. Founded by Sanjay V Javalkar in 2000, Infinity Adventures has been actively involved in adventure oriented tourism for almost a decade and has achieved a distinction for its bold & successful initiatives. Besides training in trekking, mountaineering, camping skiing & water rafting, the organisation is also involved in activities like yoga & martial arts at regular intervals. Infinity Adventures aims to involve people into a more adventurous life enabling more & more opportunities to shoulder risks and successfully overcoming them.
We believe that taxing the physical being nourishes the mind & the soul, very much like the ancient sages did. Hurl yourself into grueling circumstances where all artificial resources of this material world end and nirvana is sure.
We operate out of our own unit with sophisticated equipment of international standards necessary to take up adventurous activities. Apart from implementing our packages in the Western Ghats, we regularly take batches to the Himalayas too. Packages are carefully planned considering the seasons, climate, geographical aspects & even the political changes, if necessary, for the safety of our clients.
The biggest revolution in the region, we can claim to have brought, is the one-day treks & excursions, which have been attended by thousands of students & professionals in past years. Equally popular are our adventure camps & high altitude trekking expeditions in the Himalayas. Our adventure camps have a fine blend of Yoga & unarmed combat, which is in demand from our regular clients.
Having exposed thousands of people from school students to corporates to various kinds of adventurous activities, we intend to help people develop bold personalities to face the challenges of daily life effectively. At Infinity Adventures, we become your guides to your own self-realization.
